Cultur X is a social impact fashion brand designed to push Black culture forward. They do this by embedding QR Codes into their designs that link people with the stories of Black cultural icons and legends, with the goal of fostering a strong sense of identity and pride among it's users.
Hank Olguin started out as a college athlete in the Rose Bowl and ended up in advertising. He became a fierce advocate of Latine representation in Hollywood and today uses storytelling to combat stereotypes and discrimination.
Grace Lee Boggs was an iconic Asian American activist and founder of the James and Grace Lee Boggs Center to Nurture Community Leadership with her spouse James. We had the privilege of interviewing her niece Tiffany Lee to share memories of her aunt and to talk about the lasting impact Grace had on Tiffany and the social justice space.
Alyson Lamont, Pamela Washington, & Emilie Hard wrote an educator's guide Reading to Belong. This book provides tools to teachers to facilitate critical conversations with students on race and identity. The authors shared their personal stories that led to writing this book.
Cynthia Masterson was the first of the artists featured in our Native American Heritage Month interview series. Cynthia is a teaching artist and owner of BlueDot Beadwork who teaches culturally appropriate beadwork to facilitate creativity and connection.
Sondra Segundo is the second interviewee in our Native American and Heritage Month interview series. She is an Indigenous artist, writer, and singer who uses these mediums to preserve the Haida language.
Our last interview of the year was with the organization Portraits of Humanity (PoH) with its founders Chelsea Ng, Amy Duong, and current president Jeanne Nguyen. PoH is a student-led project out of the University of Washington that aims to have a positive impact on doctor-patient relationships which can lead to better health outcomes, especially for BIPOC.
