Transforming White Women's Leadership

workshop title with Ilsa Govan and Tilman Smith headshots

Our workshop, Transforming White Women's Leadership: Reflection and Inspiration to Strengthen Racial Justice Practices, led by our co-founder Ilsa Govan and colleague Tilman Smith, is for white women interested in growing their anti-racist leadership practices.

This workshop will support participants to deepen awareness of the combination of institutional power, privilege, and stereotypes white women leaders both hold and perpetuate, supporting them in becoming more compassionate anti-racist managers and supervisors.

Attendees will also have an opportunity for a discounted one-hour follow-up coaching session with Ilsa or Tilman to dive a little more deeply into an issue that was illuminated in the workshop.

Date: Friday, November 8, 2024

Time: 9:00-12:00pm PDT / 12:00-3:00pm EDT

Location: This event is on Zoom.

Bigoted Conspiracy Caucus Report

Bigoted Conspiracy Caucus (BCC) is an organization working to expose the normalization of the far right "great replacement" and "invasion" conspiracies in U.S. Congress. Their BCC Report documents the history and current timeline of the actions of far right members of Congress such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA).

You can visit BCC's website to learn more and to download the report. Their video below features some of the arguments far right Congressional members have made to spread their conspiracy theories.

National Immigrants Day is October 28

With racist anti-immigrant rhetoric sentiment growing in the past few years (see story above), we felt it was important to acknowledge National Immigrants Day which is on October 28th. This day was officially established by President Ronald Reagan in 1987 on the 101st anniversary of the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty to celebrate the unique history of the U.S. as a nation built and developed by immigrants.

A wonderful way to acknowledge this day is to hear the stories of immigrants. Featured below is an immigrant storytelling series from the Washington D.C. organization Story District whose aim is to "build bridges through the transformative power of storytelling."

You can also visit I Stand with Immigrants/I Am an Immigrant to learn more about this organization's advocacy work through storytelling.

Our Projects Manager, Judy Lee, is an immigrant who arrived in the U.S. in 1978. You can hear a bit about her name story as an immigrant, along with her art project telling the name stories of other Asian American immigrants and children of immigrants in this short documentary My Name Story.

Some Thoughts on Halloween Costumes

illustration of people in common halloween costumes like witches, ghosts, mummies, pumpkins, devil, skeleton.

Halloween is almost here and we thought it'd be a good time to share this blog post by Ilsa Govan on avoiding stereotypical/racist costumes. She breaks down the arguments people typical make about their inappropriate costumes and explains why they may cause harm. You can read her thoughts on her blog post titled, Stereotypes, Costumes, and Resistance.
