Advanced Microaggressions for Leaders Workshop
We have a new workshop announcement: Advanced Microaggressions for Leaders: How to Facilitate Difficult Conversations. Our newest workshop was developed and will be facilitated by Dr. Caprice Hollins.
This strategy-based workshop is designed for supervisors, managers, and leaders who want to improve their ability to lead their staff through difficult conversations. Leaders will develop their skills for approaching challenging situations in a way that invites healing, creates psychological safety, increases their staff’s ability to have courageous conversations, and promotes growth when confronted with cross cultural conflicts.

Native American Heritage Month Spotlight Interview
"When I write, it really is healing...for the children that were abused in those schools, and then the children that were raised by hurting parents, and the generational trauma that gets passed on. What we found is when we connect back to our language, we feel so good."
In our last issue, we sat down with Bead Artist Cynthia Masterson. This time, we interviewed Sondra Segundo, Indigenous Artist, to talk about her heritage and how she uses music and books to preserve her Haida language.
Read all about Sondra's journey from shame to healing by visiting our blog, which includes samples of Sondra's music like the one featured below.
Thanksgiving and Day of Mourning
Our national holiday Thanksgiving is coming up and for many, it's a time for family gatherings. For many Native Americans, this holiday holds a different meaning and is called the Day of Mourning. Last year, we wrote about Thanksgiving and provided resources, as well as some actions you could consider taking, which you can read about on our blog here.
Below is a video interviewing Native Americans and the word that they associate with Thanksgiving. Their answers, just like the people, are diverse and nuanced.
To learn more about Thanksgiving from an Indigenous perspective, SURJ is holding a free "Rethinking Thanksgiving" webinar on November 17th. Tidelands, Native art gallery and community space in Seattle, is having a dinner and lecture "Reclaiming Thanksgiving: Honoring the Past, Nourishing the Future" on November 22nd.
In the meantime, it's not too late to start the 21-Day Indigenous Challenge offered by the Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness to continue to honor Native American Heritage Month. You can learn about the history, traditions, and the issues important to Indigenous populations.
A Message About the Election
Our team at Cultures Connecting is feeling unsettled after the outcome of the presidential election. We recently sent out a letter with a message for you, our community, about how we're navigating this time. If you missed our last newsletter, you can read the letter on our blog here.
To help you process the election, Tsuru for Solidarity is hosting a Post-Elections Reflection Space on November 18th. Fleur Larsen is hosting Fierce Liberation: a call in for white women on December 2nd.
