BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month was formally recognized in 2008 and was originally called Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. Bebe Moore was an author and journalist who struggled to get support for her daughter's mental illness and became a fierce advocate for BIPOC communities.
